Brief : To design a domestic heating solution capable of heating a modern UK home using a sustainable energy source for rural dwellings . This design should reduce the amount of carbon being released into the earth’s atmosphere compared to other energy sources freqently used.
This brief was created after conducting an extensive research paper exploring how design can improve sustainability of Planet Earth using primary and secondary research methods.
Outcome : Bilocation wood burner creates an alternative approach to home heating, creating an elegant and dramatic heating solution for rural UK dwellings. Using local timber and sustainable managed wood allows Bilocation wood burner to have negligible environmental impact. Bilocation’s minimalist design aesthetics make it the focal point of any rural new-build, providing an elegant eco-friendly heating solution for modern living spaces. Bilocation stove has been designed to increase the energy efficiency of wood burning stoves; this having been achieved by using a unique portable heater design developed to reclaim heat lost through hot flue gases using convection. This portable heater can then be removed from the stove and docked onto its base to create a secondary heat source localised to the user.

Design Proposal
Bilocation wood burner's design uses 8mm sheet steel die cut, pressed and welded together to form the outer skin. Fire brick and soapstone inserts are used to retain and store heat within the stove and portable heater assemblies.
